Dallas police formally issued a Class C assault citation against Titans’ quarterback Vince Young early Sunday morning following an altercation in a strip club.
Young was caught on videotape arguing with a man, who then flashed a “Horns Down” sign in reference to the quarterback’s alma mater. Young then became angered by the gesture and struck the man in the face with a punch.
NFL spokesman Greg Aiello confirmed that the NFL will look into the assault allegations, although it’s unlikely that Young will face a suspension given that this is his first altercation with the law. That said, if he’s convicted, there’s a chance that the league could suspend him for one or two games.
On Monday, Young addressed the media by stating, “I pray to God that Roger Goodell doesn’t come down hard on me, because I definitely want to be here for my teammates. I made a mistake, and I’m going to own up to my mistakes.”
Odds makers currently list the Titans as a 28/1 long shot to win next year’s Super Bowl. If Young is suspended, those odds would likely drop.
